Competitions

As a member of CAPA, we take part in a number of local club competitions during the year. It's a chance for members to have their images critiqued by certified judges as well as compare themselves against photographers of other clubs. CAPA rules and RCPC's entry selection process are designed to offer each member a fair chance to compete.

Even if you're not a member, competition shows can be a source of inspiration for your own photography and a chance to see subject matter that you're not used to seeing or shooting

On this page we post reminders to our members for this season's competitions that the club will be entering as well as letting our visitors know about this side of the photo art community in case you wish to come see the area's artists' works.

 
2009 Lion's Gate Camera Club - Celebration of Nature Photography (Submission deadline: Oct 27, 2009)

Lions Gate Camera Club of Vancouver, British Columbia is pleased to invite your photography club along with all other photography clubs in British Columbia and The Yukon to enter our fourth annual competition.

Celebration of Nature Photography

The theme for this annual competition is nature in all of its splendid diversity. Images must be free of any signs of man’s impact and must not include any domestic animals or cultivated plants.

All images submitted will be judged by three renowned nature photographers who are completely independent of Lions Gate Camera Club.

This is a unique opportunity for the photography produced by your members to be judged by three of the best nature photographers in Canada.

Clubs are invited to submit up to ten images with a maximum of one image per photographer.

Members: submit up to 3 images sized and titled appropriately (see rules) to rcphotos@telus.net before the submission deadline date (Oct 27th meeting).
2010 North Shore Challenge (March 6, 2010)

George Glennie Competition (USA) March, 2010)
Details: Hosted buy the Merrimack Valley Camera Club in North Andover, MA, USA. This is a north american wide competition judged in the US.

2010 Pacific Zone Print Challenge (April 25, 2010)

Crescent Beach B&W Competition May 5, 2010
Time: Doors open: 6:45pm, Judging begins: 7:30pm
Location: Alexandra Hall at Camp Alexandra,

Details: There is a (very) strong tradition that people attending this event wear only black and white clothing.
Fraser Valley Invitational May 8, 2010
Location: Chief Sepass Theatre
9096 Trattle Street, Langley
Details: tickets $10 advance; $15 at the door.
Doors open at 6:30; judging starts 7:30
A digital competition hosted by the Langley Camera Club. This year's theme is "Water" (in any form).
